Solar Technician

The trainee is trained in job related professional skills, business knowledge and employability skills during the one year Solar Technician trade. Apart from this, the candidate is given the responsibility to undertake project work and extracurricular activities to build confidence. The broad components covered under Professional Skills are as follows:

During the course trainees are taught about safety and environment, use of fire extinguishers, CPR. He understands the tools of the trade and their standardization, skinning and joints of various types of conductors, cables and the like. Basic electrical laws and their application in various combinations of electrical circuits including laws of magnetism. Wattmeter, Energy Meter etc. It can be tested by various electrical devices like Also can calculate basic electrical energy, and understand transmission and distribution of electrical energy. The trainee understands the natural planetary movements and the path of sunlight. Measuring solar radiation intensity, analyzing the effect of shadow on solar radiation, plotting radiation plot curve and drawing solar map with respect to time for location, also the trainee is taught the characteristics of photovoltaic cells and modules, batteries, charge controllers, and thus the trainee builds small solar DC devices. The trainee is taught solar batteries and their proper disposal and testing. Training is provided in connection and testing of solar panels, charge controllers, battery banks and inverters. Training is provided on the types of inverters used in solar systems and their use as per project requirements. Preparation of bill of materials for small, medium and mega solar projects, planning and preparation of reports on fabrication of integrated solar mounts, installation and commissioning of solar PV plants and hybrid plants. The trainee learns to perform various tests related to PV modules and install them according to IEC standards. Understands the manufacturing process of solar panels, manufactures and commissions salable solar products eg, solar water pumps, solar street lights, solar fertilizer sprayers, etc. Trainees are trained in electrical maintenance of inverters/cables/junction boxes, inspection of mounting structure of solar modules and replacement of faulty equipment.
